VERITY RISK — Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery

Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Planning

An untested recovery plan is a hypothesis. VERITY RISK builds BC/DR programs from a real Business Impact Analysis — setting recovery targets your organization can actually meet, and proving it through tested exercises rather than a binder nobody has opened.

BC vs. DR

Two Related Plans, Two Different Jobs

Disaster Recovery is the technical plan for restoring IT systems and data after an outage or attack — our Disaster Recovery in the Age of Ransomware guide covers the 3-2-1-1-0 backup architecture and testing cadence in detail. Business Continuity is the broader operational plan for keeping the business running — alternate work locations, manual workarounds for critical processes, vendor and communication plans, and defined roles — while DR restores the technology underneath it. Most organizations have some version of DR (a backup vendor, at minimum); far fewer have a real BC plan connecting technology recovery to business operations.

VERITY RISK starts every BC/DR engagement with a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) — identifying which processes and systems are actually critical, and working backward from the business impact of downtime to set Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) that are realistic and cost-justified, rather than aspirational numbers nobody has stress-tested.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do RTOs and RPOs come from?
From the Business Impact Analysis — a structured review of what each critical process actually costs the business per hour or day of downtime, and how much data loss is tolerable. RTO/RPO targets set without that analysis are usually guesses that the backup infrastructure was never built to meet.
How is BC/DR different from the disaster recovery architecture guide on your site?
The DR architecture guide covers backup design and testing in technical depth. This VERITY RISK service covers the full planning engagement — BIA, RTO/RPO setting, the business continuity plan itself, and tested recovery exercises — that the technical architecture supports.
Do you actually test the plan, or just document it?
Both. A BC/DR plan that hasn’t been exercised is unproven. VERITY RISK includes tabletop and, where appropriate, technical recovery exercises to validate the plan actually works before you need it — see also our executive tabletop exercises.
